Profile: Uma, 29 Studied: Neuroscience, University of Central Lancashire Position: Account Handler, Lane, Earl & Cox Advertising Time in Industry: 1 year |
I worked at Abgene for a year during my undergraduate studies. I had a strong scientific background and enjoyed communicating my research, so it seemed fitting to develop a career within the healthcare advertising industry.
After two weeks work experience with a leading agency, I applied for an account handling vacancy and Lane, Earl & Cox Advertising. I researched the role and the company thoroughly and went to the interview with a list of questions of my own. A career in account handling is based on individual ability or achievement, so it pays to know what you are getting into.
At the beginning, my responsibilities were mainly administrative. Now I’m familiar with the accounts, I liaise with clients, attend client meetings, brief jobs into the studio, as well as handle the financial aspect of budgeting and invoicing for accounts.
Depending on ability and achievement, there is plenty of opportunity to climb the account handling ladder at LEC. In addition, there is scope in the future to attend meetings and conferences overseas on the international accounts.
Graduates are welcomed as are committed individuals with prior agency experience. LEC offers training in-house as well as external courses.
Successful account handling requires many skills and attributes including attention to detail and good organisational skills. Above all, the individual must enjoy the client interface that goes with the position in order to be successful in their role.
What is your greatest achievement?
To successfully support the management of accounts with regards to the ‘mechanics’ of implementing amends to documents, the financial aspect and client liaison.
Any highs to your job?
Yes, knowing that a visual aid or presentation that I have worked on from its creation right through to the end result is being used successfully by medical representatives to publicise the product.
